California is a very special place. One of the beauties of the countryside are the blankets of wild poppies, reflecting the sun in their orange faces.

The sad part of giving fresh flowers as a symbol of true love is that they so soon fade and fall.  A few discarded petals signify the beginning of the end.  The end of the flowers perhaps, but not the end of the deep love with which they were given.

This is the beginning piece of the Fig Series. My grandmother had a lot of figs in her yard in Texas when I was young. Every year we could hardly wait for those very small beginning fruits to ripen. Homemade fig preserves on buttered toast - best comfort food ever!
